23.3.12

michael fassbender.

(fish tank, 2009)
playing a skeevy security guard who lusts after the teenage daughter (katie jarvis) of his girlfriend (kierston wareing) -- a girlfriend he happens to see behind his wife's back -- fassbender, and the entire female cast, are perfect in the gritty fish tank... in fact, it is fassy's best performance to date. even better than shame, where he plays...uh, another skeevy sex fiend.

12.3.12

alex karpovsky and david call.

(tiny furniture, 2010)
the new york sous chef or the comedy writer from chicago? call and karpovsky are just two more interesting characters in the supremely chaotic life of aura (lena dunham). a charming and witty coming-of-age tale written, directed by, and starring dunham as an oh-so-relateable college graduate, tiny furniture is also replete with attractive, well-read guys in peacoats. 'nuff said.

9.3.12

pierre clémenti.

(belle de jour, 1967)
as the sleazy, gold-toothed thug marcel, clémenti provides a sexual awakening to first-time hooker séverine (catherine deneuve) and, in the process, shows the world that blood-thirsty creeps can still make you swoon.

3.3.12

james woods.

(videodrome, 1983)
"fucked up" is the only way to describe david cronenberg's entrancing fantasy picture videodrome. in it, james woods' max renn is a sleazy television producer who gets caught up in the bizarre world of the pseudo-simulated videodrome universe -- a program created by an evil madman intent on annihilating the degenerates who get off on watching torture porn. at least, i think that's what it's about. max's mild-mannered, buttoned-down wardrobe makes for an interesting contrast to his freaky sex scene with nicki brand (debbie harry). you have been warned.
